I’m writing a diary in Zongman – Chapter 365

Chapter 365: Early April Date Invitation

The next morning was a weekend off.

As soon as Ren Amamiya woke up, he turned on the TV and saw the morning news.

The scene was fixed on a hotel illuminated by a helicopter. Under the bright lights, a white figure was particularly prominent.

A white suit, a white cape, and a white top hat – the identity was all too clear.

“The police didn’t catch him after all. Inspector Nakamori is still going easy on him. If he had just aimed his gun at his thigh, he would have had almost no chance of escaping.”

No magic trick can be played in the face of unavoidable bullets.

Unfortunately, just as he said yesterday, Nakamori Aoko’s father suspected the thief’s identity, so he deliberately held back.

Even without a detailed search, Ren Amamiya knew that the credibility that the First Investigative Division had managed to earn back recently had been lost again.

“Ring ring ring!”

Ren Amamiya picked up his phone, glanced at the caller ID – Detective Miwako Sato, he answered the phone.

“Amamiya, did you see the news this morning?”

“I did. The Second Investigative Division was almost able to catch him. The police higher-ups must be furious, right?”

“Yeah. The good reputation we managed to build after the recent major bombing case has been blown up again.”

A hint of helplessness was in Miwako Sato’s voice.

She herself was a police officer, and she didn’t want the people she protected to call her a tax thief. She always felt that she was worth the salary she received.

Ren Amamiya shook his head slightly.

“Detective Sato, that’s not something you need to worry about at your level. This time, it was the Second Investigative Division that failed to catch the culprit, not your First Investigative Division in charge of violent crimes.”

“Your reputation online is still pretty good. Especially after the recent major bombing case. Oh, right, has that bomber been dealt with yet?”

“Not that fast.”

Miwako Sato had also been concerned about the bomber’s trial, but the trial process was quite long, and the person wouldn’t be sentenced so quickly.

“But I heard that the impact of this major bombing case is quite large. The court’s verdict is likely to lean towards the death penalty.”

“Eh?”

This outcome was a bit of a surprise for Ren Amamiya.

“I thought the most he’d get was life imprisonment or something. After all, it’s quite rare for trials in Japan to directly pronounce the death penalty.”

“I thought so too at first.”

The death penalty in Japan was quite rare. At least in her years as a detective, Miwako Sato had only seen a few people sentenced to death; the worst-case scenario was usually life imprisonment.

“I think it’s because the severity of this incident is beyond imagination. The bombing at the museum in Shinjuku caused unimaginable casualties. Of course, I think the biggest problem is the immense impact it caused.”

“If it weren’t for your help, I think the Tokyo Loop Line would have had a major explosion too. And the Mihuashi Municipal Building at night. The range and impact of the damage were quite large. I think all these factors were taken into account.”

Miwako Sato felt that all the news was pointing towards a heavy sentence, probably because of all these factors.

Ren Amamiya thought that was likely the case.

The impact was huge, and the social impact was immense. In short, there was no way to go easy on a criminal that the whole society hated, otherwise the police’s credibility would be trampled on by the citizens.

As for another reason, it was probably to regain the prestige that Kaito Kid had trampled on… Ren Amamiya sighed inwardly.

“But isn’t this the result that Teiji Moriya wanted to see the most?”

“He did so many things, and he was even prepared for his own downfall. I guess he’d be quite happy to die under his own arrangement.”

“No, I think he’d be quite unhappy.”

Miwako Sato answered seriously, but a moment later she couldn’t help but laugh.

“Originally, he was going to end his life as an excellent architect, but now he’s ending it as the culprit of a major bombing case. He shouldn’t be able to accept that difference.”

“That’s his own problem.”

Ren Amamiya had no fondness for a madman. What was the point of such a person being dissatisfied? The final result was inevitable.

Ren Amamiya had no intention of investigating Moriya Teiji.

This person’s outcome was destined. He did something, so he had to be prepared to face the possibility of this situation.

“Detective Sato is off all day today?”

“Yeah. Because it’s the weekend, and it’s also my birthday, Inspector Megure told me to take a good two days off.”

If Miwako Sato was still an Assistant Inspector, she probably wouldn’t have been able to get a good rest on the weekend, especially when she needed to do a lot of patrolling to maintain Tokyo’s security recently.

But Miwako Sato was lucky enough to be promoted, and she was also the biggest contributor to the previous major bombing case. Plus, it was her birthday, so Megure Juzo directly discussed it with Matsumoto Kiyonga and gave her a day off, so that Miwako Sato could have a relaxing weekend and birthday.

“So, Detective Sato is just planning to spend the day at home today? 290”

“Hmm? Are you planning to ask me out?”

Miwako Sato asked with a slight surprise.

“Kind of. Actually, I’m not just dealing with Detective Sato’s birthday. Tomorrow is Miss Hayasaka’s birthday, the day after tomorrow is Miss Aizawa’s birthday, and the day after that is Sonoko’s birthday. I need to do some birthday preparations too.”

Ren Amamiya was holding a notebook, which recorded the birthdays of several girls. There were four birthdays in April, so he needed to prepare birthday gifts.

“I see, in that case, that’s fine. I don’t have anything extra to do today anyway, it would be nice to go shopping.”

Miwako Sato didn’t think anything of the reason she was given. She was planning to treat anyway, just with the addition of buying gifts.

“In that case, I’ll do some preparations for going out first. See you in an hour.”

“Okay, sounds good.”

After agreeing on a time, Miwako Sato hung up the phone.

“See you in an hour… Should I also prepare myself properly?”

This should be a date, right?

Miwako Sato thought about it and still felt that this should be a date. Since it was a date, she still needed to pay attention to her outfit.

[Hello everyone, my name is Amamiya Ren. This is a very abrupt self-introduction, and I actually think so myself.] [Actually, after knowing my name, I had a bad feeling.
