The four entered the stone door.
Apart from the gemstone at the center of the altar radiating light, the walls of the hall were also inlaid with many gems, emitting a soft glow that made the hall brighter than the outside.
Under this light, the murals on the walls were faintly visible.
At this moment, Ezreal showed the biggest difference between an explorer and a tomb raider. He did not look at the teardrop-shaped gem on the altar, but went to the corner and observed the content on the wall inch by inch.
Graves and Twisted Fate were also afraid of traps, so they honestly followed behind him.
Ezreal exclaimed, “These murals… record events that happened at least four thousand, no, even five thousand years ago.”
Graves succinctly asked the question he cared about most: “Worth anything?”
“Depends on the person.”
Ezreal didn’t turn his head, and continued to move along with the content of the murals: “If you can find someone obsessed with the history of ancient Shurima, these things are worth a fortune.”
Graves and Twisted Fate exchanged glances and nodded secretly at the same time.
They’d pry off a few pieces to take with them before leaving.
“What do they say?” Twisted Fate asked enthusiastically. He wasn’t interested in history, but he needed some real information to fool people, so he had to know something about it.
Ezreal didn’t hide anything and explained: “Thousands of years ago, the Shurima Empire was incredibly glorious. At that time, the empire had thousands of powerful warriors called Ascended, who were omnipotent…”
“Tch.” Graves scoffed: “What a load of bull, I’d take them down with one shot.”
“That’s not bragging.”
Vayne was also admiring the content of the murals, and casually replied: “The Ascended Warriors were indeed very strong. The best of them were even comparable to the Aspects on Mount Targon.”
Hiss—!
Ezreal, Graves, and Twisted Fate all gasped. Aspects, that meant gods.
“Thousands of gods?!” Graves’ voice changed.
Vayne glanced at him, “I said, the best of them, at most a dozen or so at that level.”
That was still scary enough!
“And then?” Ezreal asked eagerly.
“Can’t you see for yourself?”
Ezreal was rebuffed and sheepishly continued to interpret the murals.
“The Ascended Warriors fought in all directions, constantly expanding the territory for the Shurima Empire, making the empire even more glorious, however…”
He paused, and the beam of his headlamp shone on the upper part of the mural. A huge, hideous crack was depicted on the wall, and countless insects, mantises, reptiles, and other strange creatures crawled out of the crack.
Ezreal swallowed and continued: “In the territory of Icathia, which is where we are now… a powerful monster suddenly appeared, and almost instantly destroyed Icathia…”
“Her Majesty the Queen of Shurima sent out her loyal Ascended Legion to engage in an epic war with these monsters.”
“Although Shurima achieved the final victory, the powerful Ascended Legion also suffered heavy losses in this battle. After learning this, Her Majesty shed tears of sorrow. With the blessings of the surviving Ascended, this teardrop possessed incredible power…”
By the end, everyone’s eyes were on the teardrop-shaped gem at the center of the altar, and their eyes became hot.
“This thing… is the most valuable.” Graves muttered.
“This thing… is the most meaningful.” Ezreal’s heart was also itching. He looked at Vayne and tentatively asked: “You said before… you don’t want this thing?”
Vayne nodded, “I said, what’s important to me is this ruin, not the treasures inside the ruin.”
“Then I want it!” Twisted Fate said urgently.
“Get lost!”
Ezreal pushed him, “You two are… Mr. Laurence’s prisoners, what qualifications do you have to share the spoils of war? Letting you take some stone tablets is already generous enough.”
“I… you calm down, we don’t want it, is it okay if we don’t want it?”
Graves and Twisted Fate originally glared at Ezreal, but when they saw the arcane energy gathering in his glove, their expressions immediately became clear…
Ezreal then satisfiedly put down his hand and excitedly rushed to the center of the altar, reaching out to grasp the Tear of the Goddess.
Under the envious gazes of the two brothers, he took down the Tear of the Goddess.
“Get ready, don’t blame me if you die here.” Vayne reminded.
Graves and Twisted Fate were puzzled for a moment, not knowing what to prepare for, but soon they understood.
A sudden change occurred.
Ezreal taking away the Tear of the Goddess seemed to trigger some mechanism. A purple energy rippled outward from the altar.
The ground around the altar quickly collapsed, revealing a bottomless abyss. Dense, countless monsters and insects swarmed in from all directions, emitting sharp whistles, and divided into two groups, surrounding Vayne and the others and Ezreal respectively.
Vayne smiled and explained: “The Tear of the Goddess is not just a tear, but the core of a seal. This place seals a Void Rift.”
“These monsters are the enemies that the Shuriman Ascended Warriors once faced, of course, only the lowest level ones.”
“This is not the time for科普3.1, Mr. Laurence!” Graves’ soul was about to be scared out of him, and he threw out a smoke bomb, but these insects had no eyes and were tracking them by scent.
“Run! The door is closing!”
After a brief moment of stunned silence, Ezreal cast Arcane Shift without hesitation, frantically rushing towards the closing gate, but to his despair, the stone door had completely closed when he was still twenty or thirty meters away.
Since he couldn’t run, he could only resist. The three used all means to repel the tide-like insects, but Vayne never made a move.
He stared at the sky until he saw several purple beams of light falling from the sky, then he smiled.
“Finally found it.”
